Sol's History

Spoiler warning: Sol is directly involved in almost every plot point and spoiler in the series.

The majority of this information is taken from the GG World encyclopedia from Revelator and supplemented by the art book from Sign, the official websites, and summaries of the novels.

1980s	Birth: Frederick is born.
1999	The Mysterious State of Emergency: A prophet foretells a calamity that will shake the very foundations of human society. It is apparently a convincing prophecy, as the world's superpowers declare a state of emergency. Dawn of Revival: All electronic devices in existence are rendered useless, bringing society to its knees. In the wake of this devastation, humankind begins to believe in some sort of higher order. Ban on Electronics: The Dawn of Revival prompts an emergency summit with the world's superpowers, who decide to completely ban all electronic devices, effective immediately. Discovery of Magic: As humanity struggles to recover from the Dawn of Revival, the truth behind what one might call "magic" is discovered. That same year, governments around the world begin to research practical applications of this new supernatural power source. Dawn of the Sanctus Populi: Eager acolytes flock to the discoverers of magic, and in time the cult that springs up around them becomes a legitimate organization.
2000s	College: Frederick attends college and in the process meeting meets Aria and the individual who would become That Man.
2008	The Sanctus Populi is Established: The core group surrounding the prophet become the Apostles, and dedicate themselves to the recovery effort. Their work earns them the trust and goodwill of humankind, eventually leading to the formation of one of the largest organizations in the world, the Sanctus Populis.
2010	Rationing Zeal: An international standard is set for the use and application of magic. Most major powers adopt the standard construct infrastructure around it. Citizens begin to receive standardized rations of magical energy, which is known as "Zeal."
2014	Gear Cell Theories Complete: The person who will eventually become known as "That Man" completes his Gear cell theory. The original members of his team included Vince MacDonell, Frederick, and Aria. Initially Frederick was assigned to the Saint Oratorio project, but after realizing the importance of Gear cells, he chose to transfer to that project.
2016	Inception of the Gear Project: With the Gear project fully underway, several countries begin to invest massive amounts of money in the next phase of humankind's evolution. Prototype Gear is Born: Frederick undergoes a massive genetic restructuring, becoming the first Gear prototype. Just as the process is completed, however, an accident at the laboratory forces Frederick to secretly depart. That Man and Aria also go missing. No records of what exactly was done to Frederick survive. Gear Project Development Slows: With its core team gone, progress on the Gear project began to slow Gear Cel Control Successful: Frederick develops a system that allows him to control Gear cells and uses it to maintain his humanoid form by keeping his own Gear cells at bay.
2042	The Gear Project Resumes: The united States of America resumes work on the Gear Project, intent on militarizing its results.
2045	Weaponized Gear Prototype: The USA successfully activates its own Gear prototype, but it leaves much to be desired and is far from having any practical application. That man, who had been missing since 2016, had secretly joined this new Gear Project under an alias.
2065	Weaponized Gear Complete: After several more years of research, the project creates a usuable Gear weapon. Mass production begins immediately, and the United States begins exporting its Gears around the world as security forces. The Hunt for Gears: Frederick begins a campaign of destruction, laying waste to Gears and Gear production and distribution facilities. Unable to determine who he is, the authorities begin to simply refer to him as "Badguy". Justice is Born: That Man completes Justice's exoskeleton and successfully activates her. Outrage and the Sacred Treasures: Sol develops an anti-Gear weapon he names "Outrage." Its power proves to be too much even for him, and he dismantles it into eight pieces. During the coming Crusades, these pieces would come to be known as the "Sacred Treasures" because of their incredible power.
2074	Disastrous Activation: Disaster strikes during an activation test for Justice. For reasons secret to That Man, Justice destroyed the nation of Japan with a gamma ray burst. The Crusades: Justice rebels against humanity, and the Crusades begin. She uses her domininion over all other Gears to have them rebel worldwide simultaneously. The First Sacred Order of Holy Knights: In order to combat Justice and her army of Gears, the UN forms the first Sacred Order of Holy Knights.
2103	Kliff and Sol: Sol saves Kliff from a Gear attack.
2167	Ky Joins the Holy Order: Ky Kiske joins the Holy Order.
2172	Sol Joins the Holy Order: Sol Badguy Joins the Sacred Order of Holy Knights during Kliff Undersn's tenure as commander.
2173	That Man and I-No: That Man and I-No meet for the first time. Retreat from Rome: In a heroic last stand against the Gear menace, humankind lost and was destroyed…until I-No rewound history and erased their defeat. Sol Withdraws from the Holy Order: Sol Badguy leaves the Holy Order, taking the Fireseal with him. Ky Becomes Order Commander: Kliff Undersn resigns from his position as commander and is succeeded y Ky Kiske, who is given the Thunderseal in honor of his new post.
2175	The end of the Crusades: Sol and the Order manage to seal Justice inside a dimensional prison. Humankind declares victory over the Gears, and the final chapter of the Crusades comes to a close. The First Holy Order is Disbanded: With Justice defeated, the First Sacred Order of Holy Knights disbands. Ky Joins Interpol: With the Holy Order dissolved, Ky finds a new place for himself with the International Police Force. Kliff Retires: With the dissolution of the Order, Kliff Undersn finally retires. Indications of Justice's Revival: For unknown reasons Justice's seal weakens, causing a great deal of anxiety for those aware of its weakening. Post-War Administration Bureau Established: The UN forms the Post-War Administration Bureau and charges it with reporting the damage caused during the Crusades.
2179 GG	Dizzy's Migration: Dizzy is raised by an elderly couple, deep in a dark forest. Before long she meets Testament, another Gear. The Second Sacred Order: With the possibility of Justice's resurrection on the horizon, the powers that be rush to hold the Second Sacred Order of Holy Knights selection tournament. Kliff's Death: Kliff Undersn dies during the Second Holy Order Tournament. Justice's Revival: During the second Holy Order tournament, the Gear Testament executes his plan to break Justice's seal. Justice is revived, but is incomplete at this point--according to UN records. Justice's Annihilation: Sol Badguy completely destroys Justice.
2181 GGX GGXX GGAC LtA	Lightning the Argent: Sol investigates the Blackard Corporation, an organization suspected of illegal Gear research. He discovers a Command-class Gear named Solaria, but due to being an innocent young girl, he cannot bring himself to kill her. Instead, he gives her his Gear Cell Supression device to help slow down her transformation. The president of the company is killed by Ky but not before reviving a mountain-sized Megadeath-class Gear. Sol destroys it. Dizzy, the Bounty: A bounty of 500,000 World Dollars is placed on Dizzy, and bounty hunters from around the globe begin to congregate in the forest she calls her home. Dizzy's defeat: Sol Badguy defeats Dizzy, but leaves before landing the fatal blow. After, Dizzy meets Ky who helps her find safety with the Jellyfish Pirates. The official record indicates that Jam killed Dizzy, however. What purpose this falsification is intended to serve is unclear. Paradigm and the Backyard, pt 2: Doctor Paradigm, in the process of investigating the Backyard, discovers a cube-shaped item.
2183	Sol and Sin: Ky Kiske gives Sol Badguy custody of his son, Sin. The United Kingdoms of Illyria Are Born: The United Kingdoms of Illyria are officially recognized by the UN. Ky Kiske is elected First King through a popular vote, andLeo Whitefang elected second king.
2185	Baptisma 13 Begins: Dormant Gears begin to disappear. Based on the data of the first documented disappearance, this becomes known as the "Baptisma 13" event.
2186 GG Overture	Baptisma 13 Escalates: Gears continue to disappear, and a young woman calling herself "Valentine" appears in the capital of Illyria with her Vizuel army. Valentine's physical appearance resembles Aria.
2187 Vastedge GGXrd	Baptisma 13 Comes to and End: Sol defeats Valentine in the Backyward, concluding the Baptisma 13 event. In the process, Sol learns that Valentine possessed some of Aria's memories. Coexistence with Gears: in the aftermath of Baptisma 13, the UN holds an emergency session. Ky Kiske, First King of Illyria, poposes human coexistence with Gears. The proposal is defeated and never mentioned to the public, but as a result many heads of state begin to distrust Ky. Retrieval of the Flashing Fang: Sol Badguy defeats Baldias, a member of the Conclave, and retrieves the Sacred Treasure known as the "Flashing Fang." Ramlethal's Declaration of War: Ramlethal Valentine declares war on all of humanity. Ramlethal Captured: Sol, Ky, and Sin capture Ramlethal in the ruins of Japan. The Cradle Appears: A tremendous object appears over the city of Babylon, then disappears--destroying all living beings in the city in the process. It is apparently called the "Cradle". St. Elmo's Fire: A gigantic bolt of lightning that falls once every 13 years. In the most recent case, it struck at Illyria Castle, and Illyria was covered in a heavy thunderstorm then. The Conclave intended to use this massive amount of energy to fuse their souls to Justice. Justice's Resurrection Thwarted: The Conclave's plan to ressurect Justice had been successfully prevented by Sol and company. Elphelt's Abduction: Elphelt, who was being used as a trigger to resurrect Justice, had awakened to her true purpose, and had lost all her emotions. Sol eventually managed to bring her senses back, only to have the Universal Will abduct her right in front of Sol and company. The Fourth Valentine: A new Valentine tracks down Sol. She looks identical to Aria and, despite some childish mannerisms, appears to have her memories. Ramlethal Lost: Sol and company identify Elphelt's signal. Sin and Ramlethal go to investigate, but a Gear appears and destroys the city. Ramlethal is considered killed in action. The Revelation Pt 1: That Man reveals that turning Frederick and Aria into Gears was to appease Aria. She agreed to be put into cryosleep while a cure for her disease was found under the condition that Frederick would be around when she woke up, no matter how long it took. The Revelation Pt 2: That Man also reveals that the Universal Will is, in fact, Sanctus Maximus Populi Ariels, the defacto spiritual and governmental leader of the modern world. Assault on the Universal Will: Sol, Sin, Ky, and Jack-O' are brought to Ariels' location. While Jack-O prepares to swap places with Elphelt and fuse with Justice, the other three attack Ariels. Ramlethal appears, having been saved by Raven. Revival of Aria: Aria's subconscious refuses to wake up due to the fear she feels having had spent the Crusades killing humans. With extra energy provided by That Man, Sol uses the Outrage to give Jack-O' the power to override Aria's subconscious. She fuses with Justice and Aria is revived.
